To Everything There Is A Season.

Never been a fan of winter. I just don't like being cold. My house is freezing, I work in a tin shed and my studio is a big, breezy old warehouse. There is no getting around it, I don't like winter.

Autumn is always pleasant. But it means that Old Man Winter is just around the corner.

But I do enjoy all the stuff that comes with a new season. Clearing out the last of the summer veges, mulching, turning over garden beds and getting ready for the next phase.

Getting orders ready at work. Giving them a final spruce before they are picked up and taken to their new homes. Seeing all the plants that I have grown, nurtured and loved loaded onto the backs of utes by friendly folk in khaki. Knowing that they will soon be out in the world.

Bringing in the last of the pumpkins, a nice glass of red after work, my French Resistance style leather jacket and Italian leather boots, making some new clothes, hearty soups, scarves, curling up with a good book, watching a movie by the heater and under a nice warm blankey........ actually there are a lot of nice things about winter.

Skirts, Skirts and More Skirts.

Oh I do love to ponce about the studio in my new skirt.
My new cushion range.
After a flurry of cushion making last week, I seem to have gone into a skirt making frenzy this week.

Looking through the pile of rags in the wardrobe that were my winter skirts, I knew it was time for serious action.

Inspired by CurlyPops 'Make It In May' Skirt Sew-Along, I got busy.

This one I am entering in the Thea & Sami Merry Month of Creativity. I bought this gorgeous piece of organic linen from Thea a few years ago. I made myself a lovely skirt, but still had some left over. As said skirt was getting a bit old and tatty, as favourite garments are destined to become, I made a new one.

The pattern is, once again, the Wrap skirt from Nicole Mallalieu's fabulous book, You Sew Girl. I was planning to use the A-line pattern, but the fabric is so lovely and drapey, it was screaming out to be made into a wrap.

I'm working on an A-line now. Well I will get back to it when I finish blogging.

I seem to be on a bit of a do-it-in-denim frenzy too!

'Make It In May' Skirt Sew-Along.

Here is my entry in the CurlyPops 'Make It In May' Skirt Sew-Along.

The pattern is the wonderful Wrap Skirt from Nicole Mallalieu's fabulous book, You Sew Girl.

If you look closely you will notice that the panel at the front is sporting one of my screen-print designs. I seem to be attaching them to anything that will stand still long enough.

The fabric is a black denim. Yes, that's right, it is actually black. The morning light seems to have turned it blue. *(Photos taken hastily by cranky teenage son who was running late for school). I'll be wearing it on Saturday, so those of you who make it to the River Studios Open Day will get to see it in the flesh.

Thanks so much for hosting this Sew-Along Cam. It was great fun and has inspired me to whip up some more skirts for winter.

*One could also say, 'photos taken crankily by hasty teenage son.....
